About Laura


Hi! My name is Laura, and I am a second-year Ph.D. student. I am currently studying Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Arizona State University (ASU). My master's is in applied sociology from the University of Central Florida. 
My current interest relates to substance use, harm reduction, drug policy, and treatment, intersecting within incarceration and reentry populations.
I am currently working with Justice System Partners on a racial equity in the jail workgroup. I am also an affiliate lab member of the Early Justice Strategies (EJS) Lab at George Mason University, directed by Dr. Evan Lowder. Along with this, I am also a member of the Addiction Science team at UMSL.
I am an applied researcher and always attempt to apply research to the larger community. I have worked in various capacities to apply my research. This includes:
  • Mental Health Crisis Intervention 
  • Intensive Mental Health Case Management
  • Research with Orange County Government relating to opioid and other overdose trends.
  • Opioid program recommendations in the Orange County Jail
